Lifelong Beginning

It was our first date,
I wore a red overcoat
and black stockings.
There, he is!
on the seventh table,
Seven is my lucky number,
I said to myself.

As I walked towards him,
I began recalling the pick-up lines,
I googled.
How should I begin?
Hi (or) Hello?
My mind was caught up in the maze of questions.

Hey Hazira! He said
My cheeks turned pink
without rouge.
He is the star I wanted to meet, my star, my only star, heart whispered.

We were gazing at each other
for a minute,
Is this being lost in love?
He began talking,
Caffè latte that we ordered
turned cold.
I felt warmth in those eyes
and his words were much warmer.
And yeah, feet were off the ground,
It is him, It is him,
heart kept saying.

It was a perfect day,
perfect start to a
lifelong beginning.
No more a Philophobic
rather a Philophile.
Love, transforms and
transformed.

She recited the poem
that was written
3 years back
to her “second love”
in her womb.
As always, her heart was right,
it was the
first date, first love.
Life is perfect to some…

  2. Hema, l loved this poem! At the age of 65, twelve years after my husband died., I began computer dating. None of the first dates worked out…until one of them did. We have been together for six very happy years. I don’t think I will get pregnant… I surely hope not! 🙂 🙂 🙂 But impending motherhood is a very sweet and touching ending to your lovely poem. ❤ All the best!
